What I'm...
...excited about: taking a couple of weeks off before school starts. I'll miss the folks at Primary, but I'll need it! VERY excited for a trip to the Hamptons w/ some of my future classmates! ...nervous about: business school--but more excited than nervous at this point! ...trying to be better about: taking deep breaths throughout the day. (Practicing a bit of what I preach with this one!) ...drinking: iced coffee, sans straw (I'm working on my relationship with straws--I keep hearing I'm not supposed to like them, but I do and some drinks just don't taste as good without one!!) ...eating: MORE sunflower seed butter (The unsweetened Trader Joe's version is my go-to.), this time w/ Whole Foods Woven Wheat crackers + a pear. One of my go-to snacks! ...(still) reading: Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Novels series--I'm determined to get through them before my MBA program starts! I'm on Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay and already have The Story of the Lost Child on my night table, ready to go! I wasn't so much a fan of the first couple of books plot-wise, but the way it depicts female friendships is really intense! ...listening to: the hum of my A/C. And my neighbors' A/Cs. :) ...wishing I had more time for: reading. Everything! ...doing for self-care: curling up in my new armchair and reading the morning away. And prioritizing fun!! ...wishing I could pay someone to do for me: I was going to say have my upper respiratory virus for me until it ends, but pretty sure that wishing illness on anyone is a health coach no no... What I'm...
...drinking: cold sparkling water with lemon. ...eating: sunflower seed butter (The unsweetened Trader Joe's version is my go-to.) ...(still) reading: Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Novels series--I've now moved on to The Story of a New Name and am liking it better than the first book in the series! As the girls get older, I think things are slightly more dramatic and interesting, at least to me! Still not seeing why the series seems so often to be often mentioned in feminist lit coverage, but I'm trusting it will become clear later on! ...listening to: The Chatty Sisters, a podcast by my friend Caroline and her sister, Kelly. I've known Caroline since we were in preschool so it's really cool to hear her take on events we both experienced (often together!) that have happened over the years and find myself laughing along on the subway during my subway commutes down to Primary. ...(still) nervous about: business school! From what I hear, it will be like drinking from a firehose when it starts! ...excited about: business school! I've gotten to meet more of my CBS 2020 classmates lately and they're a great bunch!! ...wishing I had more time for: reading for pleasure. ...trying to be better about: noticing when I need to stop and/or slow down. ...doing for self-care: doing things I want to do in my free time, vs. things I think I need to do (but maybe can ease up on). ...wishing I could pay someone to do for me: commute. :) Gimme some bubbles!
I noticed that I drink way more water when I have sparkling water, especially when I add a slice of lemon. If you're trying to drink more H20 this summer, try it! (However, if you are feeling gassy or bloated, you may want to lay off the carbonated water for a bit because the gas in the bubbles ends up in your stomach!) Like it cold and citrusy? Try freezing lemon slices (a very good strategy if you find that lemons go bad before you get to use them!)--pop them in some water and let them defrost as you sip! Stomach upset? Try putting a bag of ginger tea in sparkling water for an uber-healthy ginger ale! Feeling dehydrated/sluggish? Last 4th of July, this was me. My friend Shannon (props to Shannon!) told me to have some salt. I looked at her like she was crazy, but I put a little pinch of salt in my water and it worked WONDERS. Prefer still? You can also try putting still water in a carafe with sliced cucumbers and mint in the fridge for another refreshing bev, especially for summer! The longer you let it sit, the more intense the cucumber-mint flavor will be! Saving money? I love me some LaCroix, but if you drink a lot of sparkling water it can add up! I did the math, and at least for me, I figured out it would be cheaper for me to get a sodastream than to keep buying cans and bottles. (Plus, less recycling or trash for you!) Get your hands on one of those Bed, Bath, and Beyond 20% coupons (tip: they NEVER expire! You can ignore the expiration date!) to get $$ off. When each canister is done, bring your empty to the store and exchange it for a new full one for 50% off! |
